Dr. Srikanth’s Diabetes
Specialities Centre in association with Bantumilli Kanthi Kendra Seva Trust
organised a free diabetes detection camp, at Kanthi
Kendra Seva Trust premisis in Bantumilli on 23-10-2011.
Sri. J. Vasudeva Rao, Trust member said that 150 people, including 100 known diabetics and 10 new diabetics, visited the camp for a free check up and medical advice apart from free medicines.
“Few people had pre-diabetic status i.e. blood sugar levels between 130-145 mg%. They were advised to go for corrective diet plan and life-style modifications, though no medicines were prescribed to them, and they could be fine for many years without medicines, if they go for regular blood sugar check-up,” said Dr M. Srikanth.
DSDSC team advised the people to consume washed and clean salads, leafy and fresh vegetables, pulses (non-crushed, non-washed, sabut (whole) dals), whole grain atta, low- cream milk. They were also advised to fight insulin resistance by adopting good life-style. “Regular walk, yoga and holistic approach tune up the body and it is seen that people may not need any anti-diabetes medicine for period up to 5 to 6 years. Ayurvedic herbal medicines are very helpful in controlling insulin resistance, and in preventing long term complications of diabetes,” said Dr M. Srikanth.
